This vintage ink stone is one of the
Traditional crafts designated by the Minister of Trade and Industry
.
Ogatsu ink stones have 600 years of history. (15th century)
They use natural black hard slate mined in Ogatsu area and carefully hand made to shape ink stones by master craftsmen.
You can see some caved/uneven spots outside.  They are NOT chips nor cracks.
